School profile
Maryhill High School is a catholic founded Girls’ O’ & A-level Boarding school located at Nyamitanga hill, Mbarara district. It was started in 1961 with the aim of promoting the education of the girl child to build the nation. The school has since grown and expanded not matching with the corresponding resources to support the teaching and management functions.
The school started as an O’level boarding school, single sex(girls) and attained “A” level status in 1980 but did not have enough facilities most especially the classrooms and accommodation until 1994 when the old girls and the parents completed a two storeyed classroom block which was commissioned by His Excellency the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Enrolment
1115 students, 64 Teaching Staff, 15 Support Staff and 33 Group Employees.
The growth of the school has not been a miracle but of tireless work of dedicated men and women.
The Old Girls and parents have worked hard in the lead to build a bright future for Maryhill High School.
Catholic education is always aimed at forming a holistic formation of the human person.
We always aim at a threefold education of body mind and soul aimed at the interior transformation of the person.
The Archdiocese is proud of Maryhill High School in that the holistic education is achieved for the Girl Child. We are proud of the Old Girls who have remained a light to Maryhill High School and to the Archdiocese.
Curriculum
The School offers a full and varied curriculum where students study Agriculture, Computer, Typing and Office Practice, Home Management, Needlework, Commerce and Art & Craft apart from the traditional subjects. We hold Music, Dance and Drama Intercolour competitions annually where students compete in various items: Speech, Drama, Singing (Western Choral Singing, African Composition) Dancing, African Instrumental Composition, Solo. The Competitions take place during the first term of the year.
In Second Term, the school holds Sports and Games Competitions annually where students also compete in different games and sports activities such as indoor games like Drafts, Table Tennis, Scrabbles, Chess.., Track Events and field Events, Netball and Volleyball.
Third Term is always left free, for students to concentrate on their academic work because of the Uganda National Examinations Board which take place in the months of November /December.
